Slim’s is an American-style diner in the heart of Liverpool’s eating and drinking district (not to be confused with the nearby “steins & brines” joint touting a similar moniker), and reckons to be “the perfect place to enjoy some comfort food and quality time with friends and family”.
Indeed, there’s something for everyone here, from bigass burgers to superfood salads, and even a Little Slim’s choice for kids. Let’s begin at the beginning, breakfast, served from 10am, with a small selection (waffles and veggie things on toast) available all day. You can have a full English or an all American, and the star-spangled flag-flying extends to a breakfast burger complete with potato rosti and pancakes topped with bacon, fried egg, maple syrup and blueberry butter. Moving on, and the theme continues with the Reuben sandwich, combining pastrami, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut and spicy mustard, or the buttermilk chicken in Slim’s signature Kornflake coating, available in a brioche (or gluten-free) bun or naked except for Sriracha mayo. There really is lots to choose from: spicy Korean hot dog with kimchi-style pickle, chicken and bacon mac’n’cheese, house BBQ pork ribs, and even grilled salmon with corn chowder and charred broccoli. There’s also a standalone vegan menu – boasting buffalo cauliflower wings (available on unlimited Wings Wednesday, as are the chicken version), BBQ corn ribs and Slim’s plant burger, featuring grilled Seitan in a beetroot bun – and even Sunday specials of topside beef, roast chicken or grilled Seitan, served with all the trimmings.
Desserts keep up the plant-based idea with vegan chocolate cake and vegan whipped cream, or you can go full fat with NYC baked vanilla cheesecake or an Oreo brownie with chocolate sauce and soft serve ice cream. Add in a cocktail or a beer or two, and there you have it.
