Turncoat Bar is a spacious, subterranean hideaway beneath Royal Albert Dock specialising in gin, craft beer and wood-fired pizza.
The setting is grander than you might imagine: think grade I listed cellars with beautiful old brickwork and vaulted ceilings. Above ground they have an enviable terrace overlooking the water – it’s a fantastic spot when the weather is being kind.
Turncoat is also an independent distillery producing small batch gins and vodka – the bar has the full range for you to explore and a bottle shop too. A G&T is the obvious choice or try their Cascade Negroni or a London Dry French 75 for a classic done well. Craft beer drinkers are kept happy with fifteen on tap.
The simple food menu focuses on their rustic pizzas, charcuterie boards, nibbles and salads plus a handful of desserts. The glowing pizza oven adds to the cosy atmosphere – who knew a basement beneath the docks could be so inviting?
