International inspiration meets familiar flavours at modern eatery 109 Allerton, where you’ll find good-quality dishes using locally sourced ingredients, and almost certainly something to satiate your appetite from breakfast right through the day.
The 109 Allerton team, here since 2017, is passionate about good food and proud to be “working tirelessly to dream up new dishes”. From all kinds of eggs to tick the brunch box to vegan superfood salads featuring jewel-like goji berries and gluten-free Buddha bowls with turmeric golden cauliflower, these take healthy eating as a start point, but the ethos means that nutritious also has to pan out as tasty, unforgettable and even luxurious. Tenderstem broccoli and wild mushroom pasta gets the luxe touch with a creamy white wine sauce and crunchy toasted pine nuts, plus the optional extra of grilled chicken. Beef skewers use fillet and are treated to a special Korean marinade and cooked bulgogi barbecue style before being sprinkled with sesame seeds and freshly sliced spring onion. Even the burgers go out of their way to be a little bit different, from Middle Eastern chicken, with harissa and tahini additions, to Seoul, with kimchee and Sriracha mayo. Inspired by local produce, the fresh fruit and veg come from Crosby and quality meat and dairy is sourced from a Lake District farmer.
And if you fancy just popping in for a morning coffee or an after-work drink, that’s fine. It’s amazing how many five a days those freshly made cocktails and mocktails can rack up, and there’s seating outside as well as in.
