Côte Brasserie Manchester

French

Add a little Parisian je ne sais quoi to your day with a trip to Côte, styled on a chic city bistrot with lots of black and white clean lines and serving up classic French recipes using authentic ingredients from across the Channel.

Onion soup with cheese-laden croutons is the perfect entry point, or one of the pâtés, which includes a vegan mushroom version using wild cèpes, a favourite à la France. Mains run the gamut of brasserie cuisine, with meats including corn-fed Brittany chicken, confit pork belly in a Calvados jus and lamb loin chops with Roquefort butter. From the water, there’s classic moules marinières swimming in white wine, garlic, parsley and cream, traditional Breton fish stew and a Comté cheese-topped fish parmentier pie. On the beef front, think slow-cooked boeuf Bourguignon or a burger dripped with Reblochon cheese, while the steak choice is ample, starting at your basic steak frites and gearing up to a 7oz grass-fed 30-day aged fillet. Vegetarians might like the goats cheese ravioli, from the à la carte, or the chickpea taboulé with a harissa dairy-free yoghurt, making it vegan, from the fixed-price menu. The Prix Fixe runs weekdays from noon, and is just under £15 for two courses – add another £4 for three.

Desserts continue the theme français, with all the favourites from your French cookbook, from chocolate fondant to crème caramel and from crêpes to tartes. A selection of regional cheeses is also available, accompanied by that other French classic: grapes. It goes without saying that the wine list is up to scratch, not to mention proper French apéritifs and digestifs.
