Along with a passion for good food, family is top of the list for Jenny Yacoumis, who opened independent Italian restaurant La Filia, meaning “daughter”, in autumn 2019. Combining the freshest ingredients with traditional Italian flavours, think much-loved dishes with a bit of a modern makeover.
The menu is pretty hefty, with both pasta (gluten free is available) and pizza sitting alongside pesce fresh fish and secondi piati, including a grilled meat subsection featuring steaks, spatchcocked chicken and lamb cutlets, cooked to your instructions. Classics like spaghetti carbonara and pollo Milanese happily compete with the likes of lobster ravioli and flash-fried calves liver in sage butter, while potato gnocchi dumplings put in an appearance, as does risotto.
There’s also a seasonal specials board and set lunch menu, along with an “expertly curated” wine list, crafted with La Filia’s food in mind, all delivered in a space which is both sophisticated and elegant yet comfortable and welcoming. And no good Italian would survive without a decent dessert list – cannoli and tiramisu are here, of course, but our eyes are on the chocolate and Italian dark beer cake.
