With colourful decor, eclectic knick-knacks, plenty of potted plants and a bit of a Seventies vibe, Mary & Archie does laidback well – and it also does a mean Bloody Mary and some super-hot, super-cheap jalapeno quesadillas. We wouldn’t know anything about hangovers, but this might be the place to pick if you’re in West Didsbury with one.

Breakfast and brunch is an into-the-afternoon affair, with all your favourite bennies, and tons of choice for the veggie or plant-based palate. The main menu runs into the evening and is covered by burgers and burritos, plus a whole world of jerk – the chicken skewers line up with rice and peas, mango chutney and slaw; the wraps of jerk chicken and jerk tofu get mango chutney, fattoush and green salad. Sides and sharers include the likes of beef chilli nachos, homemade guacamole and Korean BBQ wings.

Check the blackboards for abundant offers – soup and a side specials, coffee and cake deals, happy hours, that kind of thing. Craft beers and real ales, local draft beer, bottles and cans are plentiful while there’s a good selection of wine, fizz and classic and unique cocktails, like that pineapple and basil margarita. Fix that hangover, then go right ahead and set it back up.
