Patty Queen at Escape to Freight Island

Promising “the best burger this side of Santa Monica”, Patty Queen means serious burger business, morning, noon and night. The LA-inspired burger joint menu includes breakfast buns with eggs and crispy bacon, brunch burgers with roast tomatoes, and beyond.

Let’s start with the classic hamburger, boasting “delicious, delectable patties”, we’re told – two of ’em. Using aged beef – smashed – the duo of patties get double American cheese, dressing top and bottom, plus chopped lettuce, beef tomato, red onion and pickles, all held together with a toasted potato brioche bun. The vegan alternative features a grilled Beyond Meat patty, topped with smoked vegan gouda then doused in gherkin relish and smothered with chopped lettuce, beef tomato, red onion, pickles and Patty Queen’s secret vegan burger sauce, all inside a toasted vegan brioche bun. There’s no sidelining the ever-popular fried chicken, though – crispy buttermilk breast and chopped lettuce in a toasted potato brioche bun, with oozy American cheese, smokey barbecue sauce and drip-worthy ranch dressing. The Fish Dog is Patty Queen’s version of a fishfinger butty, popping fried panko-crumbed cod into a brioche roll with tartare sauce and ketchup, chopped lettuce and that cheese.

Sides include French fries, battered crispy gherkins and hash browns can be dipped with gusto into house patty dressing, smokey sauce and pickle relish, and there are shakes a-plenty to complete the authentic US diner-style dining experience.
