Takk Oxford Road

Cafes

The second permanent opening from Icelandic-inspired coffee house Takk brings a little bit of NQ hipsterism to the University of Manchester campus. Housed in the redeveloped University Green area, Takk Oxford Road is a popular choice for an iced latte and a home-baked cake between lectures, or a vaguely Nordic brunch dish.

Typical options include smoked mackerel on rye bread with homemade kimchi and soft boiled egg, or smashed avocado with ricotta and sukkah on sourdough. Their brioche French toast, which comes laden with white wine-poached pear, blueberries, ricotta, and walnut crunch, has a lot of admirers.

Seating extends onto the plaza at the front and the interior is light and spacious. It’s not as cosy and characterful as its NQ counterpart – the modern architecture doesn’t lend itself to creating hygge quite so well. But on the plus side, unlike Takk NQ, Takk Oxford Road has an alcohol licence. Follow up your single-origin caffeine rush with a beer buzz from the likes of Cloudwater and ABC Brewery.
