The Baltic Social
GlobalOne of many indies in the now buzzing Baltic Triangle creative district, you go to the Social for “quality food, boss music and belter drinks”, plus the now legendary punk afternoon tea alongside other regulars such as bottomless brunch and jazz roast Sunday.
So, let’s start with that famous punk afternoon tea, which is available every day and includes oft-changing (for example, festive specials come out with the Christmas decs) regular, veggie and vegan options to help sop up the fizz. Savoury wise, the finger food might include sliders, sandwiches and sausage (or “sausage”) rolls; for the sugar fix side of things, think cupcakes and brownies/blondies. Brunch also has meat, dairy and plant-based pickings, including smoked bacon benny, Baltic rancheros – flour tortillas with avo smash, cheese and two fried eggs, plus zingy homemade pico de gallo salsa – and breakfast muffins, including a version with vegan sausage and melted vegan Gouda. There are also big brekkies and butties, while sweet treats include fried brioche French toast and crack waffles (we kid you not) piled high with ice cream, popping candy, whipped cream, sweets and chocolate drops. Go bottomless, and you’ll get two meals and unlimited sides (toast and hash browns), plus unlimited pilsner, Prosecco, mimosa or gin of the week for your dollar. Later on, dishes slot nicely into the comfort food category, with offerings the likes of bites, burgers and bowls, and combo deals like soup and a sarnie. Checking into Baltic Burgertown, we like the look of the vegan Indian burger with squash pakora, minted salad, cucumber, red onion and lemon mint mayo.
Need an energy boost? Peruse the counter for the likes of red velvet cookie bars baked fresh by Liverpool’s Fudgemental, or order an espresso martini or fresh mojito. There’s plenty where they came from, and two-for-ones at certain times.
