The Pasta ProjectItalian
One of the things we love about Italian food is its ability to transform a few modest ingredients into something wonderful. With its simple, back-to-basics menu, The Pasta Project in Harpurhey Shopping Centre shows this kind of cooking at its best.
The pasta is made fresh every morning then served with sauces such as slow-cooked bolognese, or genovese with basil, pine nuts and olive oil. The prices reflect how humble these dishes are – order a comforting bowl of spaghetti with garlic, chilli and breadcrumbs for £3.49 for example.
Pizza follows a similar, no-nonsense approach. Dough is made fresh and left to proof for 24 hours before being cooked on a wood-fired oven. Toppings could be as simple as mozzarella and garlic, or tomato and mozzarella. The result is nourishing and cheap – exactly what pizza is supposed to be. They also do homemade desserts such as chocolate cheesecake.
