The Quarter

Italian

You can’t get much more picture perfect than the cobbledy Falkner Street in the cool boho Georgian Quarter and, with its minty paint job, candy-striped canopy and European bistro-style terrace chairs, this Italian-inspired independent restaurant doesn’t let the side down.

Family owned and run since 2003, The Quarter’s menu states that it strives to put locally sourced and sustainable ingredients first and foremost, with pizza and pasta dishes joined by choices cooked fresh on the grill. These include a catch of the day, with tartare sauce, and a steak of the day, with peppercorn sauce. Both come with chunky chips, but those truffle and Parmesan fries might be worth the swap. There are also posh kebabs – cod, salmon and prawn skewer being one, lamb kofta wrapped up in a flatbread with Greek salad and tzatziki being another. There’s more, but we’re excited about some of the pasta dishes… the Benedict combines hot smoked salmon with spinach and asparagus plus poached egg and cream sauce; the vegan fennel puttanesca is zingy with chilli, onion, garlic, capers and tomatoes. A goat’s cheese pizza has also caught our eye, with pesto and tomatoes, while the plant-based piperade, tapenade and crispy shallot pizzette starter means we could consider a mini pizza to start, then – hello – a pasta for main. Don’t forget dessert – “all of our cakes are made by our lovely pastry chef Victoria”, and we’re not going to argue with the sound of that banoffee pie, although there is a specials menu…

Breakfast is another reason to head to The Quarter, with cauliflower fritters an actual thing alongside spinach, avo and all the other standards on the vegan full, or just a nice simple bacon butty. Swill it down with a mimosa, no one will judge, or take the kids for their own mini fry-up.
