The Wild Goose

British

Prepare for a trip down memory lane – The Wild Goose (brought to you by the same team as Tre Ciccio in Altrincham and also Ramsbottom) serves “retro-esque” dishes inspired by a by-gone era of gastronomy and classics of French and English cookery given a modern twist.

Starters include the likes of prawn cocktail, complete with Marie Rose sauce, and tuna Niçoise salad; mains list parsley breadcrumbed cassoulet with crispy salt-aged Goosnargh duck and pan-fried calves liver and bacon with bubble and squeak; afters reinstate Black Forest gateau.

Steak-frites – ribeye, sirloin and fillet is 28-day aged Hereford with sauce choices including Cafe de Paris; featherblade is braised and served with truffled mash and buttered kale. Fish fans can dip into the baked cod with curried mussel mouclade or chemoula-spiced roast salmon with giant couscous and chickpea salad and halloumi crisps. A fixed-price Sunday lunch menu offers roast beef, dry-aged pork loin, pan-roasted salmon with moules marinières or wild mushroom Wellington and winter greens.

Sticking with the French theme, puds include pot au chocolat with Grand Marnier or crème brûlée; English style, and you could try sticky toffee pudding with clotted cream. There’s also a selection of British and French farmhouse cheeses to sniff out. George Bergier is behind the wine list – there are also cocktails, and premium lager on draught.
