Viet Shack Manchester Ancoats

Restaurant - Vietnamese

Nelson Lam and Leo Tran’s Viet Shack empire started with a humble takeaway stall in the Arndale Market which quickly gained a reputation (and snaking queues) for its dazzling lunch dishes at bargain prices. Viet Shack Manchester Ancoats followed, giving the team the opportunity to expand their offering and really show what they’re made of.

The food is inspired by traditional Vietnamese small plates designed to be enjoyed with a beer or two. Try classic dishes such as banh xeo (crispy pancakes made with beer and filled with pork and prawns) or Manchester-born Lam’s fusion dishes such as burgers and loaded fries zinged up with the typical fresh flavours of Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi. Namely, copious vibrant herbs, fish sauce, garlic and chilli.

There are some stunning fish dishes on the menu too, which changes regularly, and of course, they do pho. Desserts such as the fluffy golden bao bun served with coconut condensed milk and pistachio keep the fusion theme going until the end.

Drinks-wise, there’s an Asian-inspired cocktail list and unusual softs such as guanabana juice and mangosteen juice, alongside a solid selection of the standard options.
