Mr Fitzpatrick’s
Mr Fitzpatrick’s claims to be Britain’s last temperance bar, and if that makes you think of puritanical Victorians, fear not.
It’s a hospitable and homely spot, more tea room than bar, with a menu of feel-good comforts like hot chocolates, huge sundaes and Lancashire cheese pies.
The main attraction though – the one that wins it awards and spots on TV travel shows – is the range of cordials and tonics. From blood orange to sarsaparilla to dandelion and burdock, these vintage softs are stocked throughout the posh delis and farm shops of the North.
Here you can try them at source. Quirky, characterful and famous in these parts, Mr Fitzpatrick’s is well worth the trip up the M66 to Rawtenstall.
