The neighbourhood guide to Oxford Road
Mention the Oxford Road area of Manchester and most people think of the universities. Both Manchester University and Manchester Met are based along this busy, buzzing thoroughfare, which leads from Whitworth Park on the edge of Rusholme, right down into the city centre, where it changes into Oxford Street at The Palace Theatre.
The regeneration around the universities and Circle Square (where the old BBC building once stood) means it’s looking particularly ship-shape at the moment. And the thousands of students, lecturers and university staff make it a really lively part of town, especially in term-time. Head here for bars, cheap eats, culture, gigs, and buses (lots and lots of buses).
