Anason

Cafes

Anason is a Turkish-Mediterranean cafe which is fast becoming a local favourite for breakfasts, brunches and lunches in Glossop. Situated on Norfolk Square, it’s got possibly the best location in town, and some would say the best coffee too, but we’ll let other people argue about that one.

It’s run by Turkish husband and wife team Figo and Gizem, and it opened in October 2024. On the menu, you’ll find home-cooked Mediterranean, Greek and Turkish dishes such as menemen (scrambled eggs in a tomato sauce served with feta cheese, olives and pitta bread) and beyti kebab (a minced beef wrap with tomato sauce and garlic yoghurt).

The breakfast menu is centred around eggs, breads and sweet simit Turkish bagels, with lots of lovely additions and toppings such as avocado, cream cheese, olive paste, Turkish sausage, halloumi and honey. Every plate offers an uplifting combination of fresh ingredients and contrasting flavours. It’s largely made from scratch in the kitchen, and every dish is cooked fresh to order.

If you’ve room, ask for a slice of their burnt Basque cheesecake, homemade by Gizem. It’s creamy and light – you’ll be amazed at how fast you spoon it up. It goes well with one of their strong, rich cortados.

The coffee menu at Anason is extensive and includes unusual options such as an iced Freddo espresso, a Spanish latte, and of course the classic Turkish coffee. There’s a lot to explore here. Multiple visits are recommended.
