Levanter
Owned and run by Basque food importers Joe and Fiona Botham, Levanter is ‘a true tapas bar’ serving authentic Spanish dishes, wines and sherries.
Sourcing special meats (both cured and aged) and cheeses from small, rural artisan producers, and bread from local operation Trove, means that everything is as authentic as you’re likely to find in Ramsbottom. With the exception, perhaps, of the food and wine at sister pintxos bar, Baratxuri (also in the Top 100).
Packed with wooden-barrel tables, and tucked away on a side street, the restaurant is more ‘classic’ tapas bar than Baratxuri. The menu could include perfect renditions of mejilones al vapor (steamed mussels in Manzanilla with garlic and lemon oil), frito Mallorquin (pan-fried diced liver with potatoes, peppers and chillis), pig cheeks braised in Rioja, and garbanzos (chickpeas with spinach and egg). Look out for daily-changing grilled meats and fish and a host of aged, cured meats, preserved fish, and cheese, including unpasteurised Mahon with chilli membrillo.
Levanter is a love letter to our favourite holiday destination served in impeccably good taste.
