Zara’s Hub
Quaintly calling itself a “wine bar” on Instagram, Zara’s Hub actually dabbles in a bit of everything, from a classic breakfast and brunch offer right through to evening meals and cocktails – even Sunday lunch is thrown into the mix at this popular spot in Childwall.
Set yourself up for the day with the full English, or a veggie option involving halloumi or indeed vegan alternative featuring hummus. Morning favourites also include muffins, sourdough toast and bagels, and gluten-free variations can be ordered. Smashed avocado makes its way onto the menu four times and smoked salmon teams up with eggs and hollandaise as well as cream cheese on a couple of crowd-pleasers (one inexplicably labelled vegetarian), while all kinds of combinations are available to make up your ultimate two-filling omelette. Heading into lunch and beyond, and you can also build your own pizza choosing three toppings from the selection, although if you’re meat-free and after Italian, you’re probably better off with the mushroom bruschetta or pesto pasta. King prawns also feature here, including as a tomato, chilli and garlic linguine; other fish dishes on the spring menu were sea bass fillet with sauteed potatoes and pan-fried salmon with skin-on fries. Chicken can be found salt-and-peppered in a wrap or as part of a Caesar salad. It also appears in the spaghetti carbonara. Sunday roast is served from 1pm and is likely worth booking a table for, and don’t forget to check out the specials board – this has in the past included the likes of fillet steak and Dauphinoise potatoes as well as Moroccan-spiced lamb with flatbread.
Sweets will cause havoc for the chocolate lover – too much choice! – and there’s a Lotus Biscoff cheesecake and hot sticky toffee pudding served with ice cream. As a fully functioning bar, there’s a choice of drinks, and the cocktails always go down well.
