Withington Baths and Leisure Centre
Fancy a dip in an Edwardian era swimming pool complete with stained glass windows, poolside changing cubicles and ornate tiling? Head to Withington Baths and Leisure Centre – it’s the last remaining operational pool from that era in Manchester.
This beautiful building is run by Love Withington Baths – a not-for-profit that saved it from closure in 2013. As well as the baths, there are exercise studios, a cafe and a co-working space. The aim is to provide a place where the local community can exercise and socialise, and everything is priced with that goal in mind.
Affordable classes include zumba, dance, pilates and yoga – currently priced at just £6. You can pay as you go or become a member for £30 a month, giving you access to all classes and the pool. The staff and teachers are lovely – they’re always around to help and are very encouraging when you’re trying something new.
The building also houses a co-working space, Withington Works, which offers standing and sitting desks as well as a bookable meeting room. It’s right next to the garden; handy when you want a break and some fresh air.
