The Good Sauna

Situated outdoors in the shadow of the Deansgate Square high-rise apartments, The Good Sauna is the place to go if you want fresh air and exposure to the elements as part of your sauna package.

It has a small sauna hut heated by a wood-burning stove, four ice baths, and a covered seating area with a fire pit. The Good Sauna limits groups sizes to eight so it feels quieter and more intimate than some of the larger facilities.

The bite of outdoor air adds to the experience – you can get toasty in the sauna then zone out watching the flames dance in the fire pit outside. It’s very zen when it’s raining and we’d love to try it when it’s snowy. Fingers crossed for this winter.

Blankets, sauna hats, water and hot tea are included. Bring your own towels. There are no hot showers and the changing cubicles are also outside so don’t expect spa-like luxury. Though if you’re brave enough to duck right under in those ice baths, a brief cold shower isn’t going to bother you.
