Ōdiōba
Ōdiōba puts the audio in Stockport’s bar scene. The hand-built audiophile sound system comes from the team’s previous place, Nam, in Ancoats but the Underbanks seems a perfect fit for this new listening post.
During daytime hours, the venue is a relaxed coffee shop with the warm crackle of vinyl adding atmosphere and cosiness. Evenings see Ōdiōba come into its own as a listening bar for hi-fi heads, inspired by Japanese jazz kissa.
The name is a phonetic rendering of audio bar in Japanese and the cocktails fit the theme too. House specials are inspired by everything from Hokkaido snowball fights to ghostly Kitsune foxes and there are well-made classics too.
But we’re guessing it’s the music you’re here for. Night-time beats are bigger with plenty of esteemed DJs gracing the decks like FREAKOut Collective and Living Room Dance Club. There are more chilled options on offer too like Wednesday’s jazz and chess night, Thursday’s pub quiz and regular album listening clubs.
Vintage vinyl never sounded better.
