Tipples of Manchester
Tipples of Manchester is a gin specialist store, with 100 bottles and counting – but, as they say themselves, “you can’t have a spirits shop with only gin now can you?”, so the floor-to-ceiling shelves are also creaking under the weight of 700 spirits, liqueurs, bitters, syrups and more.
Aside from gin, we hear that Tipples is the go-to for whiskies and rums, and owners Greg and Tom are adding new products all the time. The city centre liquor store stocks a regular list of products and rotates a good number of their lines on a regular basis. They work with a wide range of suppliers to ensure as broad and comprehensive a selection as possible, so you’re sure to find anything from old favourites and local names to perhaps a bottle you haven’t come across before. Looking for something new to give a go? Pop in for a chat and a run-through the “liquid library” to find your perfect drink (you might even get a cheeky sample or two along the way), and if it’s something specific but hard to track down you’re after, they’ll order in for you, no worries.
Tipples founder and co-owner Greg knows his spirits, having helped set up the bar at Manchester House, then working as brand ambassador for Spain’s Gin Mare. Believing that flavour is king, he says there will never be a product in Tipples that “we haven’t personally tried and believe is good quality at a reasonable price”. As a sign of their confidence, Tipples offers a Sip Before You Spend service on a wide range of products, allowing you to make an informed decision; after all, as the team say: “We appreciate that dropping a wedge of your hard-earned cash on a bottle of liquid you’ve never tasted can be an unnerving experience.”
There are also regular in-store tastings and sampling sessions, with 10% off any of the featured bottles on the day, and masterclasses are available for up to seven people on site (more if you organise the venue), with Around The World In 80 Gins as standard and bespoke alternatives in case gin isn’t your thing. Just give them a shout – they’re happy to help.
