Indian Tiffin Room Leeds
Indian Tiffin Room Leeds is part of a small but well-respected Northern chain that transforms the dated curry house experience into a fresh, modern celebration of Indian street food.
The décor is light and airy with Indian knick-knacks here and there, and a mix of tables and window booths which are beautifully upholstered in Indian fabrics. It’s certainly a lot better looking than the swirly carpeted Indian restaurants of yore, or the dodgy neon Indian restaurant phase of the 2000s.
However, you’re here for the food not the floor tiles and it doesn’t disappoint.
The menu is a bit discombobulating with so many different sections but for a proper meal you probably each want one thing from the street food section, plus one thing from either the tiffin meets ITR section or the grilled kebab section, then a main course (or an Indo-Chinese special) plus assorted breads and sundries.
Indian Tiffin Room led the way in the new breed of Indian restaurants that serve up bhel puri rather than bhuna and the food is phenomenal. Highlights include the vada pav, the ITR Mysore masala dosa and the channa batura.
The above dishes are all vegetarian and you don’t miss the meat at Indian Tiffin Room. There are some fabulous dishes like chilli squid and the lovely lamb dish ITR Rajastani laal maas but two thirds of what’s on the menu is meat-free.
