Joro Vegan Eatery
Tucked away on Birkenhead’s Hamilton Square, just a couple of minutes walk from Woodside Ferry Terminal, is Joro Vegan Eatery.
The menu kicks off with breakfasts served from 9.30am – including a full English, porridge and, yes, the ever-present smashed avocado on toast. Then from 11am, you can choose from sandwiches, salads, sharing boards and main meals featuring vegan staples such as falafels and hummus, jackfruit and quinoa.
Look out for daily specials such as madras-spiced Bombay burger with samosa, bhaji, mint yogurt, mango chutney, and salad. The food is influenced by Indian, Italian and Middle Eastern cuisines – so although it’s fairly simple stuff, it’s not short on flavour. It’s zingy fresh too.
For drinks, choose from the usual teas, coffees and softs, and a small selection of cans from Neptune Brewery in Maghull. Leave room for afters: there’s a cake counter stacked with home-made vegan bakes and treats.
Joro Vegan Eatery is a basement venue but don’t let that put you off. There is plenty of natural light from the tall windows, and they have a small yard with tables at the front for alfresco meet-ups.
