La Casita

Restaurant - Mexican

After humble beginnings serving up traditional Mexican street food from a little stall at the markets, La Casita now has its own “little house” in Chorlton, where everyone is welcome – “Mi casa es tu casa.” From burritos to tacos, this is a real taste of Mexico, best eaten with fingers – everyone’s friends at this intimate and casual restaurant.

Following authentic Mexican recipes, starters include nachos, chipotle chicken wings, cheesy or chorizo quesadillas, and pulled-pork chimichanga parcels. Another filled favourite is the “pastry” empanada, made with corn flour and fried for extra ooziness. Fajitas (steak, chicken or mushroom) are served sizzling with seasoned onions and peppers, and the burritos see a large flour tortilla stuffed with rice, refried black beans, cheese and pico de gallo salsa, soured cream and a sprinkle of spring onion, and your choice of filling – for something a bit different, try the cochinita pibil: slow-cooked pork marinated in oranges, lime and traditional Mayan flavourings. One of Mexico’s best-loved dishes, the tacos come in threes: traditional soft shells filled with the likes of creamy garlic prawns or spicy chilli con carne served with a bowl of rice on the side (maybe use cutlery for this one).

Desserts are quite limited, but who doesn’t love a good churro? Aside from the usual beers and wines, the drinks list includes sangria and mojitos, a lager cocktail with lime juice, clamato and hot sauce (the Michelada), and a choice of tequilas and mezcals.
