Sapporo Teppanyaki Liverpool
A unique dining experience is promised at the Liverpool branch of Sapporo Teppanyaki, primarily a noodle and sushi bar, but with much more besides and offering authentic Japanese cuisine with a Western twist, all prepared with performance “before your very eyes”.
Open in the Ropewalks area since November 2003, the original Sapporo Teppanyaki is all about the spectacle, with the teppanyaki dishes cooked in front of you on flaming hotplates: “teppan” means iron plate and “yaki” means grilled, broiled or pan-fried. But this isn’t just novelty dining – the chefs are all properly trained and signature dishes like Welsh lamb fillet with teriyaki mint sauce or “caviar of meat” wagyu rib eye with soy sauce, onion and mushrooms are as luxurious to eat as they are fun to watch being yakied. There’s plenty on the sushi front, and the omakase platters make a good sharing starter, while other Japanese dishes include zingy black pepper akami (seared tuna loin with chilli sauce), various choices of yakisoba egg noodles and gyoza dumplings, both steamed and pan fried. And if you really can’t choose, there are various small plates, like vegan jackfruit spring rolls and crispy cauliflower bombs, and a choice of tasting menus, including vegetarian, to fully enjoy the sapporo experience.
Desserts include zingy pineapple uzukiri, mango sorbet and banana tempura served with vanilla pod ice cream, while plum wine, sparkling sake, Japanese whiskey and more should help it all go down.
