Sexy Fish
Sexy Fish is no mere minnow in the UK dining scene. It’s brought to you by Caprice Holdings, the group behind some of London’s most glam dining spots. Think of it as more of a humongous mermaid – beautiful and ever so slightly improbable.
The Manchester restaurant occupies a landmark Spinningfields building with the interior enhanced by three giant Damien Hirst sea creature sculptures and some rather perplexing bespoke ‘Fish Lights’ from world-famous architect and designer Frank Gehry.
With all this underwater exotica, including a personal aquarium in the private dining room, the focus doesn’t seem to be on the food. It’s all about the opulence and the experience.
That said, the menu’s extravagance does have a certain panache. The Sexy fruits de mer platter with sashimi, prawns, mussels, scallops and oysters is stunning and who can resist the exclusive dishes created just for Manchester? A word of warning though – neither the Manc sea bream ceviche nor the salmon and sweetcorn maki come with mushy peas.
