Slattery
Much like Betty’s in Harrogate, a trip to Slattery in Whitefield can be a day out in its own right. This bakery and cake shop has been in business in North Manchester for over fifty years – and now houses a dining room, cookery school, and wedding cake showroom – as well as the shop itself.
It’s stocked with sweet-toothed and savoury delights, all baked on the premises by their team of bakers and chocolatiers. Go for dainty cakes, handmade chocolates, quiches, pies, and fresh bread, as well as hampers, jams, chutneys and a vegan chocolate range.
Above the shop, you’ll find the cafe – a sedate dining room where they serve afternoon teas (with or without champagne), lunches, and brunch dishes, to the sound of a self-playing piano. A children’s menu, including a children’s afternoon tea, make it popular as a family treat.
At the cookery school on the floor above, you can learn how to recreate your own Slattery-style fancies at home. Courses include sugar-crafting, chocolate-making, and wedding cake creation, amongst others.
