The Chippy on Burton Road

Restaurant - British

The Chippy on Burton Road might be the classiest fish and chip shop in Greater Manchester. Alongside their sustainably sourced fish, and sausages from local butchers Axons of Didsbury, they serve homemade fishcakes, homemade chicken goujons, and lesser-seen chip shop choices such as whitebait and squid rings.

You can even order a bottle of prosecco with your chippy tea if you’re eating in their comfortable dining area.

As well as the classics and some remarkably good pies, there are inventive seasonal specials like deep-fried Christmas pud, and all-year treats such as mushy pea fritters which – allegedly – cure even the worst of hangovers.

The tartare sauce is homemade and the gravy has more personality than you’d expect from a chip shop. Extra points because all the packaging is biodegradable or compostable too.
