The 2024 Good Food Guide Awards were announced this week – and five of the winners are here in the North West.
Simon Rogan’s L’Enclume in Cartmel was one of just four restaurants in Britain to be named ‘World Class’. He also scooped the award for ‘Best Farm to Table’ for Our Farm – his local growing operation which supplies the produce for his three restaurants in Cumbria.
Mark Birchall’s Moor Hall was also named ‘World Class’, meaning that half the winners of the top category are in the North West region.
Lake Road Kitchen in Ambleside, the Old Stamp House also in Ambleside, and The White Swan at Fence near Burnley, were all honoured as ‘Exceptional Restaurants’ – a title given to just 35 restaurants in Britain.

Some folk in the village still refer to The White Swan at Fence as The Mucky Duck and you can still order a pint of Timothy Taylor’s at its very pubby bar. But over recent years The Swan has established itself as a destination fine-dining spot thanks to young chef Tom Parker from up the road in Burnley.
