Few people will turn down an invitation to eat cake and drink champagne. And if they did, would you want them at your party anyway? There’s nothing nicer than catching up with friends over a table of miniature sandwiches, oven-warm scones, and intricate sweet treats, with a cool glass of bubbly at hand. And in this city, you’ve no shortage of beautiful spots to do it in.
Our guide to afternoon tea in Liverpool gives you eight of our favourites, ranging from sleek rooftop restaurants with skyline views to cosy off-campus cafes where the cakes look (almost) too good to eat. The only question is, which one will you go for first?

The Art School Cellars
Served in the light-filled bar beneath the main restaurant, the afternoon tea at The Art School is given as much attention and love from award-winning head chef Paul Askew as the tasting menus served above. Expect imaginative takes on classic sandwiches such as curried Raby egg, spring onion, mayonnaise and Wirral watercress on brioche bun, and delicate desserts such as a mini homemade battenburg. There’s a vegetarian version of the menu, and a separate vegan one too.

Georgian Quarter
Cuthbert’s Bakehouse
This independent cafe-bakery on Mount Pleasant has a reputation for offering one of Liverpool’s best afternoon teas. The attention to detail in the cakes and savouries sets it apart, and seasonally changing menus mean there’s always a reason to go again.

Liverpool City Centre
Gino D’Acampo 360 Sky Bar & Terrace
This Italian-influenced afternoon tea features options such as parma ham bruschetta, tiramisu and Ferrero Rocher cheesecake. Combine that with sunset views over the city and you’ve got the makings of a memorable afternoon.

The Municipal Hotel – MGallery
The afternoon tea here won an Award for Excellence from the Afternoon Tea Awards 2025, putting it amongst just 26 restaurants nationwide to receive the honour. It’s a creative, gourmet version of the traditional afternoon tea and is served in its own dedicated space, the Botanic Tearoom. There’s an adjoining private afternoon tea room too – perfect if you want an exclusive space for a small party.

Waterfront
Oh Me Oh My
With flowers, fairylights and cottage-core stylings, this is one of the prettiest settings in the city. And it’s run by the talented team behind the LEAF cafes, so the food and drink is quality too. The classic afternoon tea is available to book on Thursdays, Fridays and selected weekend dates. Once a month, they turn up the volume for a Disco Afternoon Tea.

Take the elevator up to the 34th floor for an afternoon tea with a real sense of occasion. Like the views, the menu changes with the seasons, so it’s worth repeat visits.
