Dive Bar & GrillGlobal
Dive Bar by name… but not by nature. For starters, Dive Bar & Grill is quite a sleek space, traced from the blueprint of a cool New York-style neighbourhood go-to, complete with commissioned graffiti art on the walls, comfy leather booths and a spacious outdoor terrace.
Described by Dive as “one of the best outdoor spaces in the city”, the terrace is open every day until 11pm, whatever the weather – the retractable canopy comes in handy on sunny days, while the heating system won’t stop alfresco drinking and dining play.
Talking of which, those sports screens inside don’t extend to the outside area or the restaurant tucked way from the bar, although the mix of soulful house and RnB soundtrack and relaxed and vibrant atmosphere do.
On the food front, the menus are focused around enjoying and sharing lots of small dishes with friends. Burgers and dogs include salmon katsu and halloumi on mini brioche buns, there’s a fishfinger sandwich served the classic way with tartare sauce and tomato ketchup, and the Dive fried chicken with Sriracha mayo is said to be a highlight. Vegetarian pals might like the macaroni cheese, or there are salady offerings, of which crunchy apple, blue cheese and walnuts is one.
Desserts are Northern Quarter winners: salted caramel profiteroles come with popping candy, for example, and cheesecakes run along the lines of passionfruit and mango sundae. Drinks include plenty of draught and bottled beers, a wide range of spirits, and various cocktails and mocktails demanding a place in the sun (or under a heater).
