A stalwart of the Didsbury scene, Greens Vegetarian was way ahead of the game when they opened back in 1990. It was especially brave considering neither Simon Rimmer nor his partner Simon Connolly had worked in a kitchen before.
Unfazed, they set about conjuring up a vegetarian menu and have been ‘terrifying carnivores’ ever since. Fast forward 30-odd years and Rimmer is now a well-established household name as a bestselling cookery writer and TV chef.
Greens Vegetarian has moved with the times and remained relevant in the face of a whole new crop of veggie and vegan places popping up everywhere. Modern vegans will be satisfied to find dishes such as pulled jackfruit tacos and avocado chocolate mousse on the menu.
The light and airy space is smart enough for a dressed-up dinner date, but they have a great little soup and sandwich lunch menu, and do a good Sunday roast as well.
