Hrishi is the Michelin-starred British-Asian restaurant at the Gilpin Hotel in Windermere. An antidote to the chintz of other Lakes venues, Gilpin is a getaway with two distinct hotel experiences to choose from, each as chic as the other.
Chef duties have changed hands a few times but are safe for now with Roux scholarship winner and Michelin star chef, Hrishikesh Desai. Desai’s experience includes Les Maison de Bricourt and French Laundry; expect seamless British-Asian fusion.
The two restaurants on site include the Michelin-starred Hrishi with four AA Rosettes, and more casual offering, Gilpin Spice with two AA Rosettes.
Desai’s flagship restaurant is the real destination. Opening gambits could include Kyle of Lochalsh scallops with curry mayonnaise and pink grapefruit, or chilli glazed poached lobster with claw fritters, avocado mousse and the house mango chutney.
Mains dishes continue the subtle non-conformity; Lakes pork belly, for example, comes with wild mushroom ravioli and Chinese five spice.
The wine list includes niche bottles from Germany or Northern Italy. Desserts could include a baked passion fruit cream with tarragon jelly and black pepper sorbet.
