Lovelocks Coffee Shop
Nestled in the Cultural Quarter, a stone’s throw from St George’s Hall and Walker Art Gallery, Lovelocks recently relocated up the street to bigger premises, so popular is this coffee shop and cafe, the brainchild of Sarah Lovelock, “an avid coffee lover with a passion for food”.
As a small independent, Lovelocks supports other likeminded businesses, sourcing everything – from the sourdough bread for its sandwiches to the range of cakes and gluten-free brownies – from neighbouring bakers and patissiers.
The dishes are made fresh on site every day from local ingredients and Lovelocks caters for vegan, vegetarian and coeliac diets as well as offering plenty for the meat-eater and pescatarian.
Breakfast is a big deal and it’s the place to go for all your toast-based needs: there’s baked eggs and toast with spinach, bacon or salmon, there’s mushrooms on toast, avocado on toast, bacon on toast, BBQ beans on toast, there’s peanut butter, banana and pecans on toast and there’s French toast with maple syrup.
For lunch think soups and stews of the day, salads and sarnies. Meat wise, sandwiches include: pulled pork; bacon, rocket and tomato or bacon, brie and cranberry; Serrano ham, cream cheese and rocket, and balsamic chicken, which is super popular. There’s a salmon, cream cheese and avocado bagel, and avocado features alongside salsa with either halloumi or houmous, your choice. Another meat-free, dairy-free option is roasted carrot and butterbean pâté, while Lovelocks’ various plant-based plates also include a vegan chilli.
Drinks, and teas, softs and iced coffees are the support for the main act: proper coffee. This is made to order, freshly ground in house using the highest quality 100% Arabica beans ethically sourced from Merseyside roasteries “who share our enthusiasm for exceptional coffee”.
