At Ruyi’s, you can expect traditional Chinese and Oriental cuisine and fusion food – the only difference is this traditional Chinese is all vegetarian, and most of the dishes are vegan to boot. Mock meat, soy-based substitutes and tofu plus veggies pure and simple are the USP here, for plant-based, guilt-free eating.
It’s super healthy, with lots of vegetable goodness, gluten-free options and plenty of Szechuan pepper oil used in the cooking process, adding vitamins and minerals and other benefits, such as aiding digestion and lowering blood pressure. There’s a spread of dim sum, from steamed char siu bao to grilled or fried dumplings, while mains include curries and salt and pepper dishes. There are various “beef” and “chicken” sizzling plates and hotpots, a selection of fried rice dishes and various types of noodles to choose from, including Singapore vermicelli, not to mention sides, soups and starters, with all the classics featured, from satay “chicken” skewers and sesame seeds “prawn” on toast, to spicy caramel “ribs” and aromatic crispy “duck” pancakes.

Bring your own booze for a corkage fee or dip into the quite extensive unusual teas on offer – jasmine is here if you want to stick to what you know, otherwise try the antiviral honey chrysanthemum brew or the revitalising goji berries and read dates mix – it promises to “promote overall wellbeing and longevity”.
