Glossopdale Furniture Project
Glossopdale Furniture Project is a local charity that provides secondhand furniture to people in need, while also selling items to the general public to raise funds. At their shop on George Street in Glossop, you’ll find a real mix of donated pieces, from beautiful solid oak cabinets to well-used but functional office furniture. They also restore and upcycle odd bits of wood and damaged or dated furniture to create fresh, contemporary-styled pieces.
The shop is their showroom, so to speak, but if you want to see the full range of stock, head up to their warehouse on nearby Pikes Lane. You can get some bargains there. I once bought a carved walnut mirror for £10, and a mustard velvet Edwardian tub chair for £15 (it had wobbly legs and loose upholstery but they were soon fixed).
Like the shop, the warehouse sells a combination of low-priced, well-used items alongside higher priced pieces, making it worth a visit whether you’re shopping secondhand out of necessity or searching for something old and beautiful. Fridges, lamps, beds, desks, kitchen equipment, solid wood tables – it’s got everything you need to furnish a home on a budget, with some gems hidden amongst the shabby-chic.
