Whistle Punks
Hearing the thud of axes can be a little unnerving as you leave the cinema in the Great Northern – especially after a slasher film – but the axe throwing at Whistle Punks is about letting off steam not cutting off limbs.
It’s competitive and a bit like darts really, only you’re throwing whacking great axes at the target instead. A bullseye with an axe is very satisfying indeed.
The 70 minute sessions are designed for people with no experience of throwing axes. Hopefully, that should be just about everyone. Over the course of your session, you’ll take part in a tournament and even learn some tricks.
While this is entertainment with an edge, and a sharp edge at that, it’s not as dangerous as it sounds. You’ll start off with a safety briefing and will stay with an instructor the whole time. Also, you must wear closed-toe shoes; no wielding weapons in strappy stilettos.
Each lane consists of two targets and is designed for up to ten players. Couples and small groups can book individual tickets for a social lane where you’ll be sharing with other throwers, whilst bigger groups can book an exclusive lane package just for them.
It’s certainly different and makes an interesting alternative for a corporate shindig, hen do or stag party.
After you’ve worked up an appetite as an axe-wielding maniac, you can enjoy sourdough pizzas and craft drinks. A perfect night.
