The Rembrandt
One of the originals of The Village, The Rembrandt, or Rem Bar, has been welcoming in Manchester’s gay community since the 1960s. Its only real contender for age and status is The New Union further down the street, and it has a special place in the hearts of many people whose first experience of being out (and out) was here.
It’s part bar, part pub, part hotel, and has a coveted terrace overlooking the canal where you can snack on tapas at the weekends. When a venue has been there this long, they’ve seen it all, so expect a down-to-earth, no-attitude vibe.
There’s also a 1980s-themed nightclub, Club Tropicana, which has drag hostesses, DJs and karaoke, and offers private party packages during the week.
