Papa Don
Small, cramped and slightly damp, Papa Don is about as unassuming as it gets. But if you can see through the condensation on the windows, you’ll notice that most, if not all, the tables are taken, no matter what day of the week it is.
There’s a friendliness and a warmth to this cafe specialising in homely, comforting Thai and Korean food. It’s no wonder it’s so popular with the locals. This is cooking with real soul; an umami riot of salt, spice, sourness, sweetness and bitter tang.
Confidential Guides recommends the crisp baby squid, the Thai-style chicken rice with the meat gently poached in a simmering broth, and the signature yellow curry. Papa Don may be no frills but it’s full of flavour.
