Danny Mac’s Tavern
This narrow, cosy corner pub is one of many Irish drinking dens along Renshaw Street. With its dark wood furnishings, worn leather seating, and blue-green walls, it feels like a calm, chilled hideaway during the week, somewhere you can nurse a pint while watching the racing.
Weekends are a different matter with a busy crowd and live music on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. You’ll hear the old Irish songs, and there’s open mic slots and quizzes.
Mackintosh-style lamps and whisky jars hang over the bar where you can get Guinness on draft and AF Guinness in bottles. It’s recently changed hands and there are plans to introduce a food menu and bring its Irish heritage to the fore.
