Il Capitano’s
Italian restaurant and takeaway Il Capitano’s always deserves a visit if you’re in the Waterloo area. Its offering is simple: Neapolitan wood-fired pizza (is there any other kind of pizza nowadays?) with 24-hour proven dough and traditional ingredients.
They do the classics well, showing how a few basic yet high quality ingredients, such as San Marzano tomatoes and extra virgin olive oil, can be elevated into pizza perfection in the right hands.
Less obvious menu options include their white base Wilson’s Pear pizza, featuring pear, gorgonzola, toasted walnuts, honey, mozzarella, and fresh rocket. They also offer a small range of vegan pizzas and the option of gluten-free bases.
There are some simple starters and a selection of Italian desserts, including homemade tiramisu and salted caramel cannoli. The feel of the place is casual and low-key. Il Capitano’s is a great option for easy, reasonable, highly-rated Italian food.
