Kallos Cafe & Wine Bar
Kallos Cafe & Wine Bar has lit up Salford’s dining scene like a thunderbolt from Zeus himself since it opened in March 2025. It already has a host of loyal locals who love both its easy-going Mediterranean brunches and superb coffee as well as its modern Greek meze dining and superb wines.
Not only that, less than a year after opening, Kallos made it to the big time. A coveted Confidential Guides listing. Oh, and an entry in the Michelin Guide.
Confidential Guides loves the generosity of the Balkan breakfast, all coppa hams, perfectly soft-boiled eggs and macerated heritage tomatoes, and the flatbreads are favourites at any time of day. After all, a merguez sausage, labneh and harissa combo is just as good with a morning caffeine fix as it is with a beer.
In the evening Kallos really shows what kept those Michelin inspectors happy. The small plates take meze to the next level. A few stuffed vine leaves just isn’t going to cut it when you can dine on a beetroot salad with fennel, orange, mythizra cheese and walnuts, or prawn saganaki with a spiced tomato sauce, feta and an aniseed hit.
The ingredients are pure quality. Those prawns are sea monsters – huge sweet Argentinian red ones. And the barrel-aged feta has a rarely found richness and complexity.
This dedication to quality is also found in the selection of tinned fish. Sourced from the finest heritage producers of Spain and Portugal, a tin of mussels in escabeche and a glass of Assyrtiko is now one of Salford’s finest pleasures.
