Pier Eight Restaurant
With its watery views and sharp decor, Pier Eight – the restaurant and bar at The Lowry performing and visual arts centre in Salford Quays – has the stage set for a memorable evening, and the locally sourced, modern British cuisine also puts in a fine performance.
Named after the stretch of Port of Manchester where ships used to unload, Pier Eight prides itself on market fresh, seasonal produce from suppliers on the doorstep across Lancashire and Cheshire. The menu focuses on British flavours and simple dishes, where the ingredients are allowed to speak for themselves. The likes of a spinach and watercress soup served with cheese scone and whipped butter might be followed by lamb and black pudding with gratin potato. Starters and mains feature vegetarian and vegan options alongside meat and fish, and puddings include things like tonka bean ice cream and elderflower and lemon thyme granita to complement the homemade cakes and crumbles. Pre-theatre dining is popular and look out for special dinner-and-a-show offers. The light-filled space overlooking the waterfront and with a large terrace is also made for long lunches, while afternoon tea is available on Saturdays, with finger sandwiches and sweet treats.
For a more casual dining experience, or a quick bite to eat before seeing a show, a full bar menu is available at Pier Eight Bar, where both food and drinks are also locally sourced.
