The Counter House
Gut-cleansing spirulina juices, turmeric scented Buddha bowls and raw vegan cookies, The Counter House menu reads like a dream list of Insta hashtags for plant-powered millennials.
Believe it or not, they also do burgers. That’s if you dare to order one while under the watchful gaze of the lean and good-looking crowd perched atop the hot pink bar stools that overlook the open kitchen.
It’s all very LA, or Melbourne, and while it’s not quite the same sipping kale and coconut water in drizzly Manchester as it is on a sizzling day in Fitzroy or Silverlake, The Counter House team knows its target market.
Presided over by Joe Akka of Panacea fame, TCH is the latest ‘neighbourhood eatery’ to have opened its doors in the hipster-mecca of Cutting Room Square.
Located in the Ice Plant building, it fits right into the existing, vibrant Ancoats foodie scene, offering inventive all-day brunch options, small plates and larger dishes, like bone broth ramen, while setting itself apart somewhat with its ‘health-led’ philosophy.
The ambience is casual and arty with the usual exposed brickwork offset by a colourful, punk-influenced feature collage above the bar and kitchen, and cleverly upcycled furniture.
