The Easy Fish Co. Heaton Moor
A quality fish restaurant this far inland has always been a difficult ask but The Easy Fish Co. Heaton Moor shows it can be done. It’s both fishmonger and restaurant and the no-nonsense, back-to-basics name is a little misleading in that there’s a lot more to this place than a choice of cod or haddock.
Start with oysters in the shell on ice, or a sharing platter of tiger prawns, Cornish crab, crayfish tails and more. Typical mains include seared tuna with wasabi pea fritter, pak choi and pepper relish, or cod loin with wild garlic pesto, sautéed new potatoes, shallot and asparagus. Traditional desserts such as sticky toffee pudding and Eton Mess complete the experience.
All the fish comes fresh that morning from Smithfield Market or is sourced directly from suppliers on the coast. It’s run by a family of fishmongers with 120 years of experience in the trade so they know how to get quality produce and that translates into what’s served on your plate.
The food is certainly more sophisticated than your average fish-n-chip shop cafe but the setting is a little lacking in atmosphere. It’s nice enough with its seaside-style decor and pine tables but the focus is on the food here, which is never a bad thing.
