The Rum Fox
The Rum Fox is a new dining destination with all the charm of an old one, housed in the former village pub. The tap room keeps the feel of the local alive with a good range of ales and the clean decor is that of a posh inn but the food is more ambitious than any pub grub.
Dishes are seasonal and locally-sourced with typical offerings including wild garlic, leek and nettle soup with stuffed baked potato skin, lamb rack with braised shoulder, English asparagus, baby gem lettuce, potato terrine and mint sauce or an impressive 8oz ribeye steak with crispy pickled onion, peppercorn sauce and crinkle cut chips.
Everything is prepared to a very high standard making The Rum Fox a good contender for special occasions and private dining. There’s also a tasting menu in which beautiful ingredients are showcased over seven stunning courses.
Sunday lunch is a big deal here and it’s in the right place for a country ramble in the Ribble Valley afterwards as you endeavour to walk off all the roast beef and Yorkshire pudding.
The restaurant isn’t a muddy boots kind of place though. Cod loin with oyster and Champagne sauce merits bringing a change of clothing if you’re planning on a hike.
