Ying Wah
Ying Wah has been serving up Chinese food to loyal Woolton regulars for over 50 years. Restaurants come and go in the blink of an eye these days and it’s the high standards that set Ying Wah apart. You don’t get longevity like this without doing something right.
And boy do they get it right.
The salt and pepper spring rolls are very good and the crispy chilli beef is strangely addictive. However, the real standout is the three meat Cantonese with roast duck, char sui and crispy belly pork.
Service is friendly rather than merely perfunctory and there’s a good atmosphere. How could anyone fail to feel good when tucking into massive dim sum platters? Crispy wontons and barbecued spare ribs are happy food, if not necessarily the healthiest option.
There’s a good vegetarian selection – Confidential Guides recommends the sweet and sour tofu, and the mushroom foo yung. Unusually for a Chinese restaurant, there’s a dedicated gluten-free section too.
With a dragon parade for Lunar New Year, Ying Wah brings the energy of Chinatown to the suburbs.
