From a restaurant on a ferry to two new food markets, to a Michelin-recommended independent, there’s been plenty of notable arrivals on the Liverpool restaurant and bar scene in 2024. We’ve also lost some favourites along the way – farewell Crazy Pedros Liverpool, GPO Food Hall, The Florist, and Roski, amongst others.

It’s a transplant from that-there London but at least Boxpark Liverpool is full of local food names. This food hall meets events space is home to eight or so vendors including, at the time of writing, Rose Street Falafel (from the founders of Maray), Madre Burrito, Pukht and Yoki Social Table and Yumcha. There’s also Shake, Crazy Pedros, Simply Salt and Pepper and Stateside Grill. Choosing between them is not easy.

Blackstock Market is a huge all-in-one food, bar and entertainment destination. It’s absolutely massive and incorporates Liverpool’s largest food hall as well as being the new home of the Hot Water Comedy Club (now the world’s largest regular comedy club space). Big laughs indeed.

Turkish barbecue restaurant Elif is part of the ST Hospitality group, which also owns Bistro Franc on Hanover Street. And much like the French restaurant, it doesn’t overcomplicate things. Chances are you’ve arrived at Elif in the hopes of eating an array of near-Eastern dishes; hot and cold mezes, skewered, flame-cooked kebabs, and salads, which is exactly what you’re getting.

The Monro has had a full restoration as of Summer 2024 and is now back in all its new old-fashioned glory. The Georgian listed building has been taken over by The 1936 Pub Company who also run other Liverpool heritage favourites like The Red Lion and The White Hart.

Originally built in 1788 as a Roman Catholic church, St Peter’s Tavern opened on Seel Street in winter 2024 following an impressive refurbishment. The 1936 Pub Company (who brought The Vines and The Munro back to life) have done a sterling job at creating a beautiful new-old pub for Liverpool.
