One Percent Forest
Sandwiched between an estate agent and a solicitor’s office, cafe-bar One Percent Forest could easily go unnoticed, were it not for the smell of freshly toasted sourdough enticing you through the door.
Owners Hannah and Dean created this Scandi-inspired nook with the help of a kickstarter campaign – and the local support is evident in the busy, community feel inside. It’s a small place (you might even say tiny) with an equally compact menu of brunch dishes. Go for the Scandi waffles with blueberries, raspberries, Skyr yoghurt and lingonberry jam. Or a doorstopper grilled cheese sandwich with dill mustard, cheddar and gouda.
Their coffee has a reputation as one of the best blends in Liverpool. The craft ales and cocktails deserve to be explored too. Highlights include an Einstock Icelandic white ale on draught, and a smoky concoction named Into the Wild made with Woodford Reserve whiskey, oak moss, cardamon bitters, and orange bitters.
There’s a little shop selling work from local artists and all sorts of Scandi and coffee-themed gifts. Dogs are welcome: regular canine visitors may even get their photo on the wall.
